Drinking Water and Health: What you need to know
The United States has one of the safest water supplies in the world. However, national statistics don't tell you specifically about the quality and safety of the water coming out of your tap. That's because drinking water quality varies from place to place, depending on the condition of the source water from which it is drawn and the treatment it receives.
Since 1876, the goal of Danville Utilities has been to produce a safe and dependable water supply for all customers. Danville residents enjoy some of the safest and highest quality drinking water in Virginia. Our drinking water is tested thoroughly to ensure its safety throughout its travels from the Dan River to your tap. Our state certified water quality lab performs over 4,000 analyses of water samples each month, with other samples sent to outside labs for analysis.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for setting national limits for hundreds of substances in drinking water and also specifies various treatment processes to remove them. We continually monitor for these substances and report results to State and Federal regulating agencies.
Water Quality Report
Every community water supplier must provide an annual report to its customers. The report provides information on your local drinking water quality, including:
The water's source
The contaminants found in the water
How consumers can get involved in protecting drinking water
If you have been looking for specific information about your drinking water, this annual report will provide you with the information you need to begin your investigation. Danville Utilities constantly monitors for various compounds in the water supply to meet all regulatory requirements.
