Homeownership Assistance

The City of Danville would like to help.
The City of Danville believes that the building blocks for a strong and vibrant city are stable and resilient neighborhoods. Stable and resilient neighborhoods consist of homeowners with a mix of incomes, races/ethnicities, and ages. In order to help build this type of neighborhood, the City offers many programs that assist low and moderate income residents become homeowners, Details about the programs, and how to apply are highlighted below.
Lease Purchase Program
This program assists low and moderate income residents become homebuyer ready. Program participants lease a home for a maximum of 24 months while they work to resolve credit issues and become mortgage ready and lender qualified. The monthly rent paid goes toward the down payment. Eight months of homeowner counseling is required. All eligible applicants are required to complete a First Time Homebuyers counseling program. The classes are facilitated by Kimberly Walker and are held at The Center for Housing Education at 502 Franklin Street. To learn more about this program, contact Kimberly Walker at 434-799-2343.
An application for the Lease/Purchase program is available at the Housing and Development office at City Hall, Room 211.
Down Payment Assistance
This program assists low and moderate income residents buy a home anywhere throughout the City by offering up to 50 percent of the lender required down payment. The home must meet HOME Quality Standards as determined by a City inspector. All eligible applicants are required to complete a First Time Homebuyers counseling program. Housing Rehabilitation
This program provides low and moderate income residents with 0% interest loan that is forgivable after five years for home rehabilitation. The program will address all code related issues such as a leaking roof, heating, plumbing, and electrical.
