A Special Meeting of the Commission of Architectural Review has been called by the chairman for July 30th at 3:30 in the fourth floor conference room of the City Municipal Building, 427 Patton Street. The items that were originally scheduled on the July 23rd agenda will be heard at this time.
The Commission of Architectural Review (CAR) is a seven member commission appointed by City Council to review all new construction, exterior renovations, and signs undertaken in Danville's Old West End Historic District. To apply to serve on this Board, please fill out our online application.
The application fee to apply for a Certificate of Appropriateness is $25. Applications should be submitted in the Planning Division offices located on the second floor of the Municipal Building. In August 2014, Hill Studio completed the Pine/Jefferson/Five Forks Development Initiative as a strategy for revitalization in the Old West End Historic District. This initiative represents an action strategy for revitalization that furthers the planning, design and recommendations of the OWE Master Plan. It also positions the area as an influential “critical mass” investment to upgrade a collective group of properties for maximum effect to jump-start investment in the area.
Old West End (Rental District) Master Plan
In May of 2012, The City of Danville contracted with Allison Platt & Associates and CJMW Architecture to conduct a study of a portion of the Old West End (OWE) with the highest concentration on rental housing. The OWE Master Plan will be presented to Planning Commission and forwarded to City Council for approval.
Old West End Design Guidelines
The City of Danville has contracted with Allison Platt & Associates to complete an update to the Old West End Design Guidelines. The new guidelines are scheduled to be adopted in December 2014. For more information, view the Old West End Design Guidelines.
