Engineering
Responsibilities
The Engineering Division is responsible for the survey, design, construction inspection, and contract administration for municipal construction projects for the City of Danville. The division oversees:
- Bridge maintenance - Engineering oversees maintenance of 41 bridges in the City of Danville, including repairs and safety inspections that are performed each year
- Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) construction projects - Engineering oversees CIP construction projects of street improvements, utility extensions, storm drains, and traffic signals
- Construction stormwater management - The City of Danville is required by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VADEQ) to implement a Stormwater Management Program
- Permits - The City of Danville requires that certain permits be obtained before specific work commences on private property, which apply to commercial and residential work
- Street resurfacing
- Traffic control
Services Provided
- Maintaining an extensive drawing database of subdivision plats, old construction drawings, stormwater, and sanitary sewer main location maps, which may be reproduced for the public for a nominal fee
- Producing site-specific planimetric, topographic, and aerial photographic information for a nominal fee
- Issuing permits, including:
- Curb cut permits for new residential driveways
- Erosion and sediment control permits
- Land disturbance permits
- Investigating and resolving citizen complaints regarding stormwater problems in accordance with the stormwater committee's recommendations
