[ARCHIVED] Governor announces expansion of CBN Secure Technologies

Governor Bob McDonnell has announced the expansion of CBN Secure Technologies, Inc. in Danville, Virginia to meet increased demand for its identification solutions. The expansion will result in approximately 25 new jobs.

In 2009, CBN Secure Technologies Inc. launched its United States presence in Virginia with plans to use the Danville operation to serve other customers in the U.S. and other countries. It currently employs 40 people at its facility that produces secure credentials for the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Governor Bob McDonnell said, “This expansion is a testament to the quality of Virginia’s workforce and the Commonwealth’s commitment to businesses expanding to create new jobs for our citizens.”

The Danville-Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facility Authority (RIFA) Board approved in November 2012 a $150,000 grant to help fund the expansion and increase employment. The agreement with CBN Secure Technologies Inc. and RIFA, which includes members of the Danville City Council and Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, involves an additional 25 full-time jobs and $8.2 million in investment by September 2015. The grant money is being used for construction and equipment purchases.

A 17,000 square-foot expansion of the facility located in Cyber Park is expected to be complete in May 2013. Ian Shaw, President of CBN Secure Technologies, Inc., said, “Our planned expansion is right on schedule. We have been very pleased with the growth we have realized in the facility in just four years, and with the commitment to excellence and professionalism shown by our Danville staff.”

Delegate Danny Marshall (R-14th) added, “Another great day for the Danville area with 25 new jobs. The new expansion will have an immediate impact on local employment numbers and is being built with assistance from local Small Women and Minority (SWaM)-certified businesses.”

The CBN Secure Technologies Inc. parent company, Canadian Bank Note Company Ltd., specializes in designing, developing, and integrating technologies and solutions to offer high security identification documents, and systems for the secure issuance and inspection of those documents, in North America and around the world.
