[ARCHIVED] Festival in the Park to kick off Thursday with cooking concert

The 39th annual Festival in the Park is set to kickoff this week with a full array of events, entertainment, vendors, food and more.

The festival will start on Thursday with a Centra Enchanted Evening in the Park concert featuring Mel Melton and the Wicked Mojos. Prior to the concert, Melton will give an authentic Cajun cooking demonstration. Both events are free and begin at 6 p.m.

On Friday, the festival will open at 4 p.m. and will run until 8 p.m. Friday’s entertainment includes The Konnection Band from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Gates will open on Saturday at 10 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. Entertainment includes Shame for Sydney at 12 p.m., Barley Juice at 3 p.m. and On the Border at 6:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the gates will open at 1 p.m. and will close at 6 p.m. Entertainment includes a gospel singing at 1 p.m. and Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs at 4 p.m.

Each day, Friday through Sunday, will feature more than 100 arts and craft vendors, a children’s area, commercial vendors and food vendors.

Other events include a car show on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., the 23rd Annual Nestle 5K on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., the 10th Annual Health Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and wrist band night from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

The children’s area features pied piper percussionist, Funtime amusement rides, scrap exchange, arts and crafts, planting area, Masonic’s Children’s ID, speed pitch, children’s horse racing and free pictures with Recreation Rex presented by Danville Parks and Recreation.
