The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to 1318 Washington St. this morning at 11:30 for a reported house fire. On arrival, everyone was out of the structure and there were no injuries. One occupant was treated at the scene by the Danville Lifesaving Crew for a panic attack but was not transported to the hospital.
Heavy smoke was coming from the front door on our arrival and fire crews found the fire in the kitchen. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen area and the cabinets over the range had to be removed as well as part of the ceiling to make sure the fire was out. The kitchen sustained moderate damage and the remainder of the house was damaged by heat and smoke. Three Engines and one Ladder Truck along with two Chief Officers were on the scene just over an hour.
The Fire Marshal's office along with fire crews investigated the incident and it was determined, after talking to the occupant, that the cause of the fire was unattended cooking.
The house cannot be occupied until repairs are made. The Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary lodging.
