At approximately 1:15 pm bomb technicians with the Virginia State Police arrived, examined the suspicious device, and determined that it was not a danger. It was safely removed without incident.
The investigation determined that a delivery truck brought a trailer to the plant yesterday and dropped it off. While it was being unloaded today a suspicious device was found, which prompted the combined response by the public safety agencies involved today.
Further investigation revealed that the trailer had been in Morehead City, NC yesterday and was part of an exercise conducted by the North Carolina State Ports Authority. As a result an inert bomb-like training device was inadverdently left on the trailer before it left for Danville.
Any additional inquiries regarding the training exercise should be made to the North Carolina State Ports Authority.
