[ARCHIVED] Fridays at the Crossing concert series continues this week

The Danville Harvest Jubilee’s 2012 Fridays at the Crossing concert series continues this week with Too Much Sylvia, a Charlotte, N.C., band that performs a mix of pop, rock and soul music.

Gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the gate or may be picked up in advance at the Danville Welcome Center, which is located on River Park Drive off U.S. 29 Bypass. Children 12 and under accompanied by an adult are admitted free.

Too Much Sylvia is a four-member band featuring three lead vocalists: Rick Lee, Steve Long and Eddy Howie. Lee plays keyboards, with Long on guitar, Howie on bass guitar and Don Leonard on drums. This year is the band’s 21st year playing as Too Much Sylvia. The band in 2009 released the album “Red Sunglasses.” Songs from that album continue to be played today on beach music stations.

For Friday’s concert, however, expect the band to primarily perform cover versions of “unplugged” tunes, beach, Motown, Funky 70s, Retro 80s, a few of the top current hits and some country.

Fridays at the Crossing concerts are all held on the first Friday of May through September at the Carrington Pavilion, which is an outdoor concert venue that is part of the Crossing at the Dan complex on Craghead Street. The final concert will be on Sept. 1 and feature The Kings.

Each concert offers beer, wine and food for sale.
