[ARCHIVED] North Union Street to be closed for Downtowner demolition

Weather and conditions permitting, North Union Street from Main Street to Spring Street will be closed Monday, Aug. 13., through Wednesday, Aug. 15, to allow for the removal of the remaining section of the former Downtowner Motor Inn.

The street will be closed beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, and it will remain closed -- including during overnight hours -- until the section is removed.

Vehicles will have access to the public parking lot at the corner of North Union and Spring streets. Pedestrians will have access to the businesses in that block, but a fence will be erected to prevent pedestrians from walking from those points toward Main Street.

The demolition is being performed by D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co. Inc. of Greensboro.
