[ARCHIVED] Structure Fire 893 Pine St.

At 4pm this afternoon the Danville Fire Department was dispatched to 893 Pine St. for a reported structure fire. First arriving unit reported nothing showing from the house. On further investigation it was found that there was a fire in the closet of a downstairs bedroom. The blaze was quickly extinguished but one occupant had already suffered from smoke inhalation. Fire attack crews assited the victim in getting out of the structure. He was treated at the scene by Fire personnel and turned over to the Danville Life Saving Crew. The department responded with three engines, one ladder truck and three support and Command units. The response included units from Bridge St., Industrial Ave. and Airport Dr. The fire was extinguished with one attack line through the front door by the first attack crew. Another crew did a search of the entire structure to make sure there were no other persons inside while yet another crew treated the one injured occupant. Fire crews stayed on the scene for approximately two hours making sure the fire was out and assisting the Fire Marshal's Office with the investigation. At this time the Fire Marshal's Office is still investigating the cause and will have an update at a later time.
The Danville Fire Department does not recommend that occupants attempt to stay inside a structure and try to fight a fire. We recommend that you make sure everyone is out and call 911 and do not attempt to go back inside.
