Public Notification for Grant Applications

The Danville Police Department requested and submitted applications for the following grants in FY 2014 / 2015

  • The Bureau of Justice Assistance, United States Department of Justice has identified the Danville Police Department is eligible for a grant of $22,150.00 under the FY 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The grant does not require any matching funds and can be used for local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support and criminal justice information systems. Before the grant can be awarded the governing body of the receiving jurisdiction must review the grant and be aware of its existence and intended use. The Danville Police Department intends to apply for this grant to purchase cellular modems for department vehicles to improve wireless connectivity for Mobile Computer Terminals.  The City of Danville made its Fiscal Year 2013 JAG application available to citizens for comment prior to application submission by posting notice on the department's web site. The grant application will be made on July 9, 2013.
  • The Danville Police Department has applied for a highway safety grant under the FY 2015 Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle Highway Safety Enforcement - Alcohol Grant Program in the amount of $10,781.00  This funding will be used for the enforcement of driving under the influence (DUI) violations through sobriety and license checkpoints, breath testing units, and maintenance supplies for breath testing units. Matching funds are in-kind and will not require any additional funding from the City.
  • The Danville Police Department has applied for a highway safety grant under the FY 2015 Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Selective Enforcement- Speeding Grant Program in the amount of $12,732.00. This funding will be used to pay overtime to selective enforcement unit officers for traffic enforcement of speeding, saturation patrols and the purchase of equipment. Matching funds are in-kind and will not require any additional funding from the City. 
  • The Danville Police Department has applied for a grant under the Department of Homeland Security FY 2013 State Homeland Security Program to pay for maintenance and/or equipment for systems previously purchased with State Homeland Security Program Grand funds.   The Department has since been awarded $16,506.00 in reference to this grant.
  • The Danville Police Department will submit a grant application for $22,213 to the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, under the FY 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program for funding of a mobile application that will extend core Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System functionality to authorized mobile devices.

    Upon the award of grant funding, the Department will fund a project that will include the mobile application licenses, software implementation costs, mobile devices, mounts, cases, associated cellular service, and other associated software licenses to expand access to City of Danville Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System. These systems are for use by law enforcement personnel in the field for criminal justice purposes. Comments or questions regarding this grant application should be directed to Major Chris Wiles at no later than July 2, 2014.
