The Commission of Architectural Review (CAR) is a seven member commission appointed by City Council to review all new construction, exterior renovations, and signs undertaken in Danville's Old West End Historic District. For more information, view the Historic District Design Guidelines. To apply to serve on this Board, please fill out our online application.

The application fee to apply for a Certificate of Appropriateness is $25. Applications should be submitted in the Planning Division offices located on the second floor of the Municipal Building. For more information or a map of the area call the Planning Division at (434) 799-5261.

Old West End (Rental District) Master Plan 
In May of 2012, The City of Danville contracted with Allison Platt & Associates and CJMW Architecture to conduct a study of a portion of the Old West End (OWE) with the highest concentration on rental housing.  The OWE Master Plan will be presented to Planning Commission and forwarded to City Council for approval.
