For too long, the primary emphasis of the criminal justice system was the defendant. We in the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office have always tried to bring the victims of crime to the forefront of the criminal justice process. As a victim of crime, you now have rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Virginia and the Virginia statutes. Our office has a Victim/Witness Director who's specific task is to provide victims and witnesses with the services they are entitled to.

Trisha McDowell has been the Victim/Witness Director since February 2000. She can assist Victims with filing claims for compensation, tracking the trial status and location of defendants, and submitting Victim Impact Statements to the Court prior to sentencing.
Trisha can be contacted at (434) 797-1635.

Sarah Owens has been with the office since 2007.
