ANNUAL REPORT
2009
The number one area of concern this year is the preservation of positions due to the current economic conditions that exist nationwide. On the state level, new taxes, revenues and increases are forthcoming; however, they still lack the capacity to fulfill the gap formed by the economic depression of 2008. Governor Kaine has yet to announce the impact these cuts will have to the localities.
2008 did mark the completion of the new control room which was a main area of concern for the innovation of the Danville City Jail.
The FY2007 Jail Cost Report indicates a strong resolution of the Danville Sheriff’s Office to cut expenses wherever possible. This year the agency was able to maintain its ranking of 18th in the state, highest to lowest, in local funding dropping to 27.28%.
The Danville Sheriff’s Office continues its commitment to the community through the use of Project Lifesaver, March of Dimes and National Night Out events.
The Danville Sheriff’s Office remains committed to its main objective, 50/25 retirement for Deputies. Important legislation this year will be introduced by the House and Senate in support of this bill.
In summarization, the Danville Sheriff’s Office remains committed to the community, locality and employees to provide the best available services through technology improvements, security and safety of those entrusted to us and increased benefits for those who serve this office.
