Jim Dooley was elected Sheriff for the City of Danville, Virginia on November 10, 1988. Prior to his election to Sheriff he served as a Civil Process Server for four years and Chief Deputy for one year.
Sheriff Dooley was instrumental in the development and implementation of the inmate work crew program, which was started in September 1995, to work year round on the Little League baseball and softball fields. This was done at no cost to the city with equipment being furnished by the Danville Parks and Recreations Department.
Sheriff Dooley is a Vietnam veteran, a member of American Legion Post 325, VFW Post 647, Elks Lodge #227, past president of the Westover Sertoma Club, and past board member of Danville Little League. He is also a member and past board member of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association and a member of the Good News jail and Prison Ministry advisory board.
