The Danville Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team consists of 30 dedicated fire department members who are highly trained in the mitigation of hazardous materials incidents which can affect people, property, and the environment.
The team is responsible for calls in the City of Danville, and eight surrounding counties and cities (PDF) within a 75-mile range.
However, if needed they may be called upon to respond anywhere in the state because they are part of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management's regional response system.
The hazardous materials team functions as a Level III team and are trained to the specialist level. This means the team has been trained and equipped to work in hazardous environments in a proactive manner to stop the flow of hazardous materials. This will prevent further harm to the affected people, property, or environment.
