Contractor License Information

State of Virginia Contractor License

Contractors doing work over $1,000 in Virginia are required to hold a Virginia State Contractors License. The three classifications of licenses are as follows:

  • Class C - the total value referred to in a single contract or project is over $1,000 but less than $10,000.
  • Class B - the total value referred to in a single contract or project is $10,000 but less than $120,000.
  • Class A - the total value referred to in a single contract or project is $120,000 or more.

Contractor Bond

Class B and C Contractors are required by Section 9-2 of the Code of the City of Danville, Virginia as amended to post a bond securing the City and third parties with respect to the principal's performance of such work, contracts and subcontracts, the full sum of $5,000. All Class B and C Contractors must submit a completed original Contractor's Bond Form (PDF) (Surety Bond) to the Inspections Division.

City of Danville Business License

In order to operate a business in the City of Danville a City Business License must be obtained from Commissioner of Revenue located in the Charles Harris Financial Service Center, 311 Memorial Drive, Danville, VA 24541 434-799-5145.
