The City Planning Commission is a seven member board appointed by the City Council to review applications, hold public hearings, and make recommendations on the following:
The City Planning Commission also reviews and has authority to approve or deny major subdivision plats. After the City Planning Commission holds a public hearing on the requested rezoning, special use permit, or zoning code amendment, they make a recommendation to City Council. At the first City Council meeting of the following month, City Council reviews the City Planning Commission recommendation and holds another public hearing on the request before taking final action.
The application fee to apply for a rezoning, special use permit, or code amendment is $360 and is nonrefundable. Applications are available at the Planning Division office located in Room 207 of the Municipal Building, 427 Patton Street. For more information on rezoning, special use permits, and zoning code amendments, please contact the Zoning Administrator at (434) 799-5260. Check the Commissions Calendar (PDF) for further information on application deadlines, post dates of public hearing notices, and meeting dates for the year.
Agendas are posted when distributed to the board. Agendas and adopted minutes from 2018 to current are available online.
