Steve Saum, director of utilities for the city of Danville, has been elected to serve on the board of directors of the American Public Power Association (APPA).
The association is based in Washington, D.C., and is the service organization for the nation’s more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities. Created in 1940 as a nonprofit, non-partisan organization, the APPA advances the public policy interests of its members and their customers.
Saum was one of five board directors newly elected during the association’s annual conference. APPA board members are chosen to represent 10 regions across the country.
Saum has served as Danville’s utilities director since Oct. 1. In that capacity, Saum oversees the electric, natural gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications services of Danville Utilities.
Prior to coming to Danville, Saum was general manager/CEO of Richmond Power & Light in Indiana. He has more than 32 years of utilities experience.
Danville Utilities provides natural gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications services in Danville and distributes electricity to approximately 42,000 customer locations in a 500-square-mile service territory covering Danville, the southern third of Pittsylvania County, and small portions of Henry and Halifax counties.
