Danville City Council voted Tuesday night to accept a local businessman’s offer to donate nearly 14 acres of land that will provide for the future expansion of mountain bike trails and parking improvements at Anglers Park.
The city of Danville owns and maintains Anglers Park, which continues to attract increasing numbers of visitors to participate in mountain biking, fishing, picnicking, and use of the Riverwalk Trail. Recent improvements to the park have created a popular venue for mountain bike races, time trials and trail runs.
Currently, the Witchback mountain bike trail connector extends from Anglers Park across a narrow strip of land along Northside Drive to city-owned property behind the wastewater treatment plant. The addition of the 13.830 acre gift of property offered by Coco Holdings LLC will allow for expansion of mountain bike facilities on the northeast side of Northside Drive.
The additional land also will allow for more parking near the wood walking bridge over the wetlands in the park.
