At 5:21 am on 10/3/13 the Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 168 White Street. First arriving units advised no smoke or fire showing. Investigation revealed a fire in the ceiling and attic above the kitchen. The electricity and gas was turned off to the residence. Fire crews then opened an area of the ceiling and found wiring and insulation smoldering. The fire was quickly extinguished. Fire companies then removed much of the ceiling and insulation to insure there was no fire extension.
Damage to the house was moderate. The occupants will not be able to live in the house at this time. The occupants are receiving help from the Red Cross and the Danville Burn Fund.
The DFD sent three engines, one ladder, two support vehicles, and the assistant fire marshal to the call. The cause of the fire was faulty electrical wiring.
One firefighter suffered a leg injury during the incident. He was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. All fire units cleared from the scene after one hour and forty minutes.
