Parks and Recreation logo

Celebrate the holiday season with three events produced by the Danville Parks and Recreation Department, beginning on Saturday with the annual Holiday Market and Ballou Park Christmas Tree lighting and continuing on Friday, Dec. 13, with the Luminary Trail Walk.

In addition, the Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade is on tap for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14.

These events offer a festive atmosphere with lights, music, food and more:

Saturday, Dec. 7, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Community Market

Visit the Danville Farmers' Market for the fourth annual Holiday Market featuring everything to get you ready for your holiday parties and gatherings. The Holiday Market features handmade crafts, jewelry, artwork and other unique gifts; baked goods and other homemade goods; handmade wreaths and centerpieces; and locally grown Christmas trees.

Saturday, Dec. 7, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Ballou Park Recreation Center

Listen as the Schoolfield Elementary Choir sings the songs of the season. The celebration includes treats delivered by Old Saint Nick, followed by the lighting of the tree in Ballou Park.

Friday, Dec. 13, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., The Crossing at the Dan, 629 Craghead St.

Celebrate the season with a candlelight walk along the Riverwalk at The Crossing, while listening to holiday music. Warm, festive refreshments will be served. This annual event has been moved from Dan Daniel Memorial Park to The Crossing at the Community Market.

Saturday, Dec. 14, 6 p.m. to 2 p.m., Main and Craghead streets

The parade will begin at the intersection of Broad and Main Street, travel down Main Street, turn right on Craghead Street and end at Wilson Street.

This year’s theme is “Christmas Movies.” More than 150 entries are expected. Two performance areas will mark the route this year, one of which will be in front of First Presbyterian Church on Main Street. The additional performance area will be located in front of Golden Leaf Bistro on Craghead Street.

Parade organizers are requesting that all parked cars be removed from Main, Colquhoun and Bridge streets by 3 p.m. on the day of the parade.
