Danville Parks and Recreation is asking anyone interested in entering a display into the Community Holiday Light Show to complete a registration form by Nov. 14 to secure a spot in the show.
“We really want this to be a big event,” Lisa Ferguson, a division director with the department, said. “This is the first of its kind in town. We know a lot of people go out of town to see lights. We want our friends and families to be able to start new traditions in their own backyards.”
The light show will be the first-ever drive through event of its kind at Ballou Park and will be held December 15 – 27.
“We are excited about this,” Ferguson added. “So far we have eight groups who have confirmed they will be putting in a display, we expect many more.”
The show will feature displays designed and built by members of the community and surrounding areas. Ferguson added, however, that entries don’t have to come from an organized group.
“This show is open to anyone from small families and groups of friends to large civic groups,” she said. “We’ll take any display, whether it’s a few light up deer and tree or a large-scale design.”
Displays can be purchased or handmade, inflatables will not be allowed, however. There is no cost to enter and the city will provide power. Set up will be available starting November 24 and must be completed by December 10.
During the two-week event, the public will be given the opportunity to vote on their favorite. A donation will be made to the winners’ choice of non-profit. Any eligible non-profit must be registered with the event in order to receive the monetary award.
Organizations planning on participating include, Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville Family YMCA, Danville Hoop Dreamz AAU, Relay for Life and Cardinal Village Tenant Association.
