[ARCHIVED] Structure Fire at 338 N.Ridge St

The Danville Department responded to a reported structure fire at 338 N Ridge St at 3:20 am. Units arrived to find a three story apartment building with fire showing on the front porch. Fire had extended from the third floor front porch into the roof of the structure. Firefighters and police officers evacuated occupants as other firefighters did a search and crews began an aggressive attack on the fire. Crews were able to control the fire in about 10 minutes and damage to the building was held to a minimum. The Danville Fire Department had 3 engines, 1 ladder truck a command unit along with one support vehicle. The cause of the fire was determined to be a charcoal grill that had been used earlier in the night and left on the front porch that was to close to combustible materials. The operation was also supported by the Danville Police Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew. The building contained 6 apartments and the occupants of one apartment had to relocate, all others were able to return. The American Red Cross assisted with providing the displace family with motel arrangements for the night. Crews were on the scene for about two hours.
