The City of Danville today announced it has launched a new Instagram account (@cityofdanville) to share and highlight the city’s unique assets visually.
On Instagram, photographs and images will be shared to supplement the other methods of communication the City of Danville currently uses, including news releases, the website, River City TV, Facebook and Twitter and YouTube.
“We encourage citizens to interact with us by following our new Instagram account,” said Arnold Hendrix, public information officer for the City of Danville. “We also encourage them to capture and share their favorite photos of the positive transformation underway in Danville. By doing so, we can work in parallel to showcase the best of Danville.”
When sharing photographs and images, the City of Danville is asking Instagram users to use the hashtag #DanvilleReimagineThat.
“Earlier this year, we unveiled the ‘Reimagine That’ brand to reflect the transformation taking place in the River District, but that transformation is not limited to the River District,” Hendrix said. “Through photography and images, we want to capture the spirit of the changes taking place, and share that message within and outside the Danville community.”
The new account will be the City of Danville’s primary Instagram account, and it will join the existing City Instagram accounts for the Fire Department (@danvillevafire) and the Parks and Recreation Department (@playdanvilleva).
“These Instagram accounts are an extension of our growing social media presence,” Hendrix said. “We are now using social media more than ever as a marketing and communication tool. We distribute news and announcements, and we share information from other organizations. We also use social media as a way to provide more interaction between the City and citizens.”
The City’s official Facebook page has more than 2,500 likes, and its Twitter page is experiencing rapid growth, having added 750 followers in less than two years to bring the total number to 1,840. Earlier this week, the City reached a milestone with its 5,000th tweet.
