The Danville Police Department is advising citizens in the Dan River Region to be aware of potential telephone scams. Some residents have reported recent variations to several of the following scams: Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Microsoft PC Repair.
These and other scams are often initiated by phone, and the fast-paced sales pitch can often lead to fraudulent expenditures made on the victims credit or debit cards. Money wire transfers and pre-loaded credit cards are also preferred methods of payment by the scammers.
Learn how to spot the scams and share the information with friends and family to prevent these incidents from spreading.
