The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 823 Stokes Street Apartment A this evening at 11:50pm. Crews arrived at 11:53pm and found light smoke coming from a small one story residential duplex. Crews pulled an attack line, a back up line and began an offensive interior attack on the fire. Upon entering the structure, they encountered a mattress on fire in a rear bedroom. A ventilation fan was set up and an interior search of the structure found no one inside apartment A or apartment B. The fire was quickly extinguished and determined to be under control at 12:08 am. Apartment A sustained minor fire, smoke and water damage. Apartment B sustained minor smoke damage.
The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, one support unit and one fire marshal. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Danville Water and Gas Department assisted on scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the fire marshals' office. Nineteen fire personnel were on the scene for one hour and 51 minutes. There were no injuries reported. The occupants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
