[ARCHIVED] Roof Collapse and Natural Gas Leak at 265 Corning Dr

Sunday July 13, 2016, at 10:52am , the Danville Fire Department responded to a reported roof collapse and gas leak involving the building at 265 Corning Dr. On scene, Danville Fire Department personnel were informed by a building representative, he found the roof collapse and gas leak while conducting a routine building check. He evacuated the building and remained on scene to provide information to fire department personnel. No one was in the building at the time of the incident. Fire Department and Police Department personnel established a safe zone and blocked pedestrian and vehicle access to the area. The Danville Utilities, Gas and Electric Departments, as well as AEP Electric, were contacted and they shut off electric and natural gas supply to the facility. Fire personnel allowed the facility to ventilate then took meter readings for hazardous gas before entering the structure. Firefighters ventilated the building, checked for natural gas, and conducted damage assessment. The collapse involved an area of approximately 40ft x 40ft, damaging a natural gas line. 13 fire department personnel, 2 engines,1 ladder, and 2 response vehicles remained on scene approximately 4 hours. There were no reported injuries.
