[ARCHIVED] Free concert Thursday will feature salsa, Latin jazz

Danville Parks and Recreation’s Music on Main concert series will continue in the River District at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, with the classic salsa and Latin jazz of West End Mambo.

Formed in 1999, West End Mambo is comprised of musicians from North, South and Central America as well as the Caribbean. This nine-piece band performs a mix of classic salsa from bolero and rumbas to guaracha and son montuno. Its repertoire includes original orchestral salsa arrangements the band has performed with the Winston-Salem, N.C., and Greensboro, N.C., symphonies.

This concert, sponsored by San Marcos restaurant, is free and will be held in the Main Street Plaza at 111 Main St. adjacent the JTI Plaza. The public is encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. In case of bad weather, the show will be relocated to the Community Market at 629 Craghead St.

The summer outdoor series will conclude with Back to School Night on Aug. 18. Rope Warrior David Fisher and UR Mom band will be perform.
