[ARCHIVED] Vehicle Crashes Involving Store Fronts

At 1:31 pm this afternoon the Danville Fire Department arrived at Hilltop Exxon on Piney Forest Road and found that a SUV had struck the front of the building. The vehicle had backed away from the building approximately 10'. The driver and occupants of the store were not injured.
There was significant damage to the front wall of the Exxon. A brick wall and a large window were pushed into the building. The DFD placed a temporary T-post at the damaged area for support. A representative from the City's Inspection Department advised the business owner they would have to close until initial repairs are made.
The DFD responded with 2 engines and 2 support vehicles. 9 personnel were on scene for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Danville Police Dept. and the Danville Life Saving Crew also responded to the scene.
Later in the afternoon the DFD was dispatched to George's Market #2 on North Main Street for a vehicle hitting the front of the building. We arrived at 4:32 pm and found a vehicle had struck the building. The occupant was out of the car. There were no injuries. Damage to the exterior was minor. One wall on the inside was pushed in several inches and a display was knocked over. The damage did not warrant the store to close. 17 DFD personnel responded on 3 engines, 1 ladder, and 2 support vehicles. The Danville Police Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew also responded. The DFD was on the scene for approximately 1 hour.
