Parks and Recreation’s Summer Movie Series will continue at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the outdoor stage in Ballou Park with the 2015 Disney Pixar animated comedy-adventure film “Inside Out.”
The film is set in the mind of a young girl named Riley Andersen (Kaitlyn Dias), where five personified emotions — Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) — try to lead her through life as her parents (Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan) move from Minnesota to San Francisco and she has to adjust to her new surroundings.
Critics praised the film's concept, screenplay, subject matter, musical score, and the vocal performances. The film grossed $90.4 million in its first weekend—the highest opening for an original title at the time. It has received several awards, including a Golden Globe Award, Critics' Choice Award, Annie Award and Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The movie is free and will play outside on a 20-foot screen. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. If case of rain, the movie will be shown inside the Coates Recreation Center on Westover Drive.
The Summer Movie Series has been revamped this year and instead of all movies being shown in Ballou Park, they will me scattered throughout the city. The series concludes on Aug. 26 with a showing of “To Kill a Mockingbird” on Main Street.
