Modifications to the front entrance at the James F. Ingram Justice Center (Danville courthouse) are complete. The entrance is now open to the public.
The project was designed to enhance the security of the courthouse. It included construction of an internal vestibule inside the front foyer. The design of the vestibule will direct the public to the right or left dependent upon the volume of anticipated pedestrian traffic that day. For example, on a day where there is a jury trial, both sides will be open and manned by a deputy.
Additional security measures included installation of a state-of-the-art X-ray machine in the front foyer to complement the existing metal detectors. The front doors to the courthouse were modified with glass to improve safety and security.
Now that the project is complete, electronic devices such as cell phones will not be allowed in the courthouse for members of the general public. If a member of the public has an electronic device containing evidence for a court case, the item will be handled in accordance with Sheriff’s Office protocols.
