No plans yet for the weekend? Don't worry! Here is information on the best things to do in Danville this weekend. In addition, you may want take a short drive to Callands for the 36th annual Autumn Potpourri – Callands Festival.

YAPPY HOUR

When: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Crossing at the Dan, 629 Craghead St, Danville, VA

Grab your leash and your pup for an after work Yappy Hour at the Crossing at the Dan. Various dog and pet product vendors will be giving demonstrations as well as live music and activities. Enter your dog into best outfit, loudest bark and high jump competitions. Admission and parking are both free. Call (434) 799-5150.


FOOTBALL FEVER

When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: J.T. Christopher Stadium, 701 Broad Street, Danville, VA

George Washington High School returned to its winning ways last week with a 35-33 nail-bitting victory over rival Franklin County. This Friday, the Eagles (1-0 Piedmont, 2-2 overall) will host the Tunstall High School. The Trojans (1-0 Piedmont, 3-2 overall) last week breezed past Patrick County with a final score of 36-13. Junior running back Trevor Lovelace really separated himself from the pack — literally. He rushed for 257 yards to give Tunstall a significant boost. A year ago, GW defeated Tunstall 34-6. Kickoff is 7 p.m. The weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of showers. The temperature will be in the low to mid 70s at kickoff.


HAVANA CUBA ALL-STARS IN CONCERT

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Frith Fine Arts Center at Averett University, 100 Mountain View Ave., Danville, VA

The Danville Concert Association, which is the oldest fine arts / music series the area, will present the Havana Cuba All-Stars in concert. The Havana Cuba All-Stars bring with them, direct from Havana, the exotic songs and hypnotic music of “Cuban Nights” on their debut tour of the U.S. and Canada. Eleven of the country’s greatest and most renowned musicians weave a magical musical tapestry, based on the traditional sounds of the island nation.

Cost is $25 for adults and $10 for students. Season membership (adult) are $75, a savings (over purchasing four [4] performances individually) that’s equal to getting one concert free. AUTUMN POTPOURRI – CALLANDS FESTIVAL

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
Where: Old Clerk’s Office and Courthouse in Callands

Pittsylvania Historical Society’s 36th festival will be held at the two old historic buildings in Callands, the old Clerk’s Office and Courthouse, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will feature art, crafts, music, food and much more. The Chatham Rotary Club will have their Brunswick stew and will be joined by other food vendors. Parking and admission is free.


BE PART OF THE AVERETT TEAMS

When: Various times Saturday and Sunday
Where: Averett North Campus, 707 Mount Cross Road, Danville, VA

The university’s women’s volleyball and men’s soccer teams will be in action on both Saturday and Sunday.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, the women's volleyball team kicks off a USA South Conference quad match against Huntingdon College at the Grant Center. The team takes the court again at 4 p.m. against LaGrange College. On Sunday, the team takes on Agnes Scott College at 10 a.m. and Piedmont College at 4 p.m.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, the men’s soccer team takes on LaGrange College on Daly Field on Frank R. Campbell Stadium. At 1 p.m. Sunday, the team takes the field again as it hosts Huntingdon College in USA South Conference action.


LIVE HIVE PANEL DISCUSSION, LECTURE

When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
Where: Danville Museum of Fine Art and History, 975 Main St, Danville, VA

A panel discussion and lecture of the Living Hive project, with partners Elsabé Dixon, Jade Garrett and German Perilla. The presentation is in connection with the Living Hive exhibit, which on display through Oct. 8. The event is free to the public.
