The Police and Fire departments and Regional One EMS are partnering to provide child safety seat checks from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Sam’s Club. Anyone who provides transportation to children is encouraged to stop by for a free inspection of the installation of their child seats. No appointment is necessary.
The Virginia child passenger law requires all children under age 8 to be properly restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat. Rear-facing child safety seats must be secured in the back seat of a vehicle. Children cannot ride unrestrained in the rear cargo area of a vehicle.
The law applies to anyone (parents, grandparents, babysitters, friends) who provides transportation for a child in any vehicle manufactured after Jan. 1, 1968.
In addition, a child restraint system or a safety belt must properly restrain all children between 8 and 18. For additional information or for assistance with child seat installation, call the Police Department's crime prevention office at 434.797.8898.
Sam’s Club is located at 215 Piedmont Place.
