[ARCHIVED] Voting begins for new pieces on Art Trail

Ker-Plunk art piece on Art Trail

Voting is underway for the 2017 Danville Art Trail, which will be installed in 2017 and will replace the current pieces on display in seven locations throughout the city.

“The Art Trail Jury, made up of local art enthusiasts, have selected six new pieces for the trail. Two more pieces will be selected from a field of five through online voting,” said Danville Parks and Recreation Director Bill Sgrinia.

The voting will be open through Nov. 11. Users can cast their votes by visiting the Public Art page at www.PlayDanvilleVA.com.

“It has been very interesting hearing the public’s opinion on the art pieces,” Sgrinia said. “Everyone has a favorite so we want everyone to go online and vote.”

The original seven pieces on display along the Art Trail were installed in 2015 and can been seen at Main Street Plaza, The Crossing at the Dan, Danville Science Center, Danville Public Library, Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, and at the Union St. Overlook along the Riverwalk Trail. The pieces are on loan from the creating artists, who submitted their designs during the selection process in 2014.

The Art Trail committee is working with the artists to retain one of the original pieces to remain on display while adding the eight new pieces soon. For more information on the Art Trail, contact 434-799-5215.
