No plans yet for the weekend? Here are the best things to do in Danville this weekend. In addition, take a short drive away for another high school football showdown between George Washington and Magna Vista. The Piedmont district title will be on the line.

GW FOOTBALL

When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: 701 Magna Vista School Road, Ridgeway, VA

The George Washington Eagles face off against the Magna Vista Warriors in another showdown for the Piedmont District championship. George Washington is currently on a seven-game winning streak and looking to extend its dominance. Everything went GW’s way against Halifax County last week as it secured a 62-20 victory. As for Magna Vista, it earned a comfortable 42-25 victory over Tunstall last week. Their wins bumped both teams to 6-0 in the district and 7-2 overall. Kickoff is 7 p.m.


PROFESSIONAL COMEDY CLUB SHOW

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Historic North Theatre, 629 North Main St, Danville, VA

The Historic North Theatre's monthly comedy show will have a feature performer and headliner, with good clean, award-winning fun. You may have seen these performers on TV and at comedy clubs around the nation. Alcohol is sold in the club setting.

This month’s headliner is Alex Scott, who lived for three years in New York City, where he performed at some of the hottest clubs such as Stand Up NY, Boston Comedy Club, and the Uptown Comedy Club. Born and raised in the Washington, D.C., area, Alex moved back to D.C. and won the 2003 Kings and Queens of Comedy contest. The feature performer is Chuck Lipscomb, who has performed at numerous clubs including the Funnybone Comedy Clubs around the country.

FAMILY FUN RUN/ROLL & PANCAKE BREAKFAST 5K/10K

When: 7 a.m. Saturday
Where: Danville Family YMCA, 215 Riverside Drive, Danville, VA

Take part in the 30th annual event, which features a one-mile family fun run, 5K walk/run and 10K run in honor of Louie Fields. This race event is in conjunction with the YMCA Pancake Breakfast. The breakfast will be from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The family fun run for ages 12 and under begins at 8:30 a.m. The 5K walk and run and the 10K run begin at 9 a.m. The awards ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. The course is along the Riverwalk Trail and it begins and ends at the YMCA. Registration for the races is open now. The last chance to register is from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday. The entry fees are $25 for the 5K and 10K races and $10 for the children’s one mile fun run. The team division entry fee is $20. Entry fees include a t-shirt, a ticket to the pancake breakfast and post-race refreshments. For more information, call 792-0621 or visit www.YMCADanville.org.


AVERETT UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL

When: 6 p.m. Saturday
Where: Daly Field at Averett North campus, 707 Mount Cross Road, Danville, VA

The Averett University Cougars will host USA South Conference opponent Ferrum College. The Cougars are 3-1 in the conference and 4-3 overall following a 38-34 victory last week over N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. Ferrum College enters the game with records of 3-2 in the conference and 5-3 overall following a 35-30 win last week over Methodist University. VETERANS DAY PARADE

When: 2:30 p.m. Sunday
Where: Main Street from Broad Street to Craghead Street/Memorial Drive, Danville, VA

The annual Veterans Day parade begins at the intersection of Broad, Rison and Main streets. From there, the parade proceeds down Main Street to Craghead Street/Memorial Drive. Parade participants will begin lining up at 1:30 p.m. The parade begins at 2:30 p.m.
