Where: River District Artisans, 411 Main Street, Danville, VA

Meet local artisans and see demonstrations. Enjoy light refreshments. A handcrafted quilt giveaway will be held.

George Washington High hosts Heritage High (Leasburg) in the first round of the Group 4A West state playoffs. GW (7-3) is seeded No. 7. Heritage (7-3) is seeded No. 10. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Thirty-nine local youth will take to the stage in the North Star Theatre Project’s latest production. Disney’s Mulan JR. is action-packed stage adaption of Disney’s animated film. Based on Disney’s Oscar-nominated film, Disney’s Mulan JR. is a heartwarming celebration of culture, honor and the fighting spirit. God’s Storehouse presents the third annual Breakfast with Santa. Come out and join Mr. and Mrs. Claus for breakfast. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at Karen's Hallmark (Piedmont Mall), Woodforest National Bank (inside Walmart), and God's Storehouse. Where: AAF Tank Museum, 3401 U.S. 29 Business, Danville, VA

Watch the battles on the museum’s 6,000 square-foot indoor battlefield. Continuous battles all day. Entry fees are $12 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 12 and adults over 60. Children under the age 4 are admitted free. For more information, call the museum at 836-5323.

Where: Daly Field at Averett North campus, 707 Mount Cross Road, Danville, VA

In their home finale of the season, the Averett University Cougars will host USA South Conference foe Huntingdon College Hawks. The Cougars are 3-2 in the conference and 4-4 overall following a 14-3 loss last week against Ferrum College. On a five-game winning streak, Huntingdon enters the game with records of 5-1 in the conference and 8-1 overall following a 28-24 win last week over Maryville College. The game will feature Senior Day and Military Appreciation activities. Retired Sgt. First Class Dana Bowman will parachute into Saturday’s football game prior to kick-off to deliver the game ball. Bowman is a retired first class sergeant with the U.S. Army, where he was a special forces soldier and a member of the U.S. Army’s elite parachute team, the Golden Knights. The double amputee lost both of his legs in an accident during an annual training in 1994. For more information, go to

The 9th Annual Bright Leaf Brew Fest offers a day of fun with a thousand of your closest friends at Danville's historic Community Market. Sample from more than 100 different beers, enjoy live music and eat some delicious food. A sellout is expected. This is a 21-and-over event. You must show your ID for entrance to the event. A portion of the profits will support Habitat for Humanity projects. Tickets are $29 in advance and, if available, $35 day of event. This event is a murder mystery dinner benefit for Friends of Eden Animal Shelter. Enjoy dinner and help solve a “who done it” mystery starring local animal lovers.
