For the second consecutive year, the  Danville Farmers’ Market, one of the River District’s long-standing traditions, no longer will be just for the spring and summer. Beginning Saturday, Jan. 7, the market reopens for the winter.

Located in the Community Market building at 629 Craghead St., the farmers’ market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“All dates are weather permitting,” said Kenny Porzio, program coordinator for Danville Parks and Recreation. “The winter market will offer favorites such as honey, meats, wine, baked goods, coffee, crafts and seasonal produce.”

In addition, the Donation Station will be open, with all proceeds benefitting God’s Storehouse. The Danville Master Gardeners and the Danville Humane Society will have booths.

The winter market debuted a year ago at the request of vendors with year-round offerings. Those offerings included seasonal produce from vendors with greenhouses. The market proved to be a success, with both good vendor participation and customer traffic.

The winter market will close on Saturday, March 18.

The spring and summer farmers’ market operates every Saturday from May through October. In July and August, the market also is open on Wednesday afternoons.
