[ARCHIVED] Rail crossing work begins Tuesday in the city

Train and tracks photo

Norfolk Southern will perform maintenance work on railroad crossings in the city beginning on Tuesday at Clearview Drive. Once work is completed at Clearview Drive, the crew will move to other crossings in the city over the next two weeks.

Each crossing will be closed while the work is being performed. Some locations will be closed for a day, while others may take longer. Norfolk Southern will establish detours at each crossing. Motorists are advised to slow down and proceed with caution or seek alternate routes.

The Clearview Drive crossing serves the Pine Tag neighborhood. For residents and visitors in this neighborhood, Norfolk Southern will detour traffic to a single lane crossing on Oak Creek Drive that it will open.

Due to the limitations of the single lane crossing, the Danville Fire Department will stage a fire engine on the east side of the tracks in the parking lot of Danville Golf Club.

Here is a list of the main railroad crossings scheduled for maintenance:

  • Clearview Drive
  • Hunter Street
  • Edgewood Drive
  • Edgewood Drive
  • Stokesland Avenue
  • Wooding Avenue
  • Holbrook Street
  • Jefferson Street
  • Monument Street
  • Lynn Street
  • Halifax Road

The number of roads closed at one time can vary depending on how close they are to one another.
