[ARCHIVED] Structure fire at 909 Paxton Street

The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 909 Paxton Street this evening at 11:14 pm. Crews arrived at 11:17 pm and found heavy fire showing from the windows on the second story and attic area of a large two story house. The house was determined to be vacant.  Engine 1’s crew pulled an attack line and began defensive operations for extinguishment. An additional attack line was pulled by Engine 3’s crew for extinguishment and to protect the adjacent house. The ladder truck was set up for large volume water flow. The fire was knocked down at 12:24 am and determined to be under control at 12:52 am. The house was then searched to confirm no one was inside. Crews remained on scene to search for and extinguish hidden fires due to a partial roof and floor collapse.

The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, one support unit and one fire marshal. Sixteen fire personnel were on the scene for three hours and 30 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Danville Electric Department and Danville Water and Gas Department assisted on scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office. No injuries were reported.
