[ARCHIVED] Festival In The Park opens at Ballou Park

Danville’s Festival in the Park presented by URW Community Federal Credit Union returns for its 42nd year May 19-21 in historic Ballou Park. This year’s three-day event includes several new attractions including a teen art show, a baking contest, a spoken word workshop, and a children and teen’s talent show.

“We love to see Festival continue to grow, even after 42 years,” said Festival in the Park Board President Jason Bookheimer. “This year will have some great new attractions and entertainment as well as some returning favorites.”

Festival hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 19; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 21.

This year’s Bud Light Main Stage Entertainment lineup includes Mason Via and Friends at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by Jason Springs at 8 p.m.; Matt Boswell and the Hillbilly Blues Band will take the stage at 6 p.m. on Saturday as the opening act for Academy of Country Music Top Vocal Group Richochet.

Sunday will feature the gospel stylings of Walter Davis and Spiritual Wonders, Jessica Griffith and Singers, David Wilson and Singers, Annoited Voices and The Shockoe Music Group.

Festival will also include children’s rides, a children’s area, children’s entertainment, festival food, arts and craft vendors, and much more. Entrance into the park and the concerts is free all weekend; there will be a cost for rides and vendors.
