The Danville Children’s Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at the Carrington Pavilion and will feature all new attractions and activities including tubing trips, a splash zone and the Carolina Panthers mascot, Sir Purr, and PurrCussion Drumline; and as always, admission is free.
“The Children’s Festival has been one of our favorite events since it began,” said event organizer Lisa Ferguson with Danville Parks and Recreation. “This event has grown tremendously every year; by moving to June, we have been able to grow even more and offer water activities and a little summer fun.”
Danville Parks and Recreation will host the splash zone, which includes water games and activities and a water slide. The recreation department will also be providing free tubing trips on the Dan River for ages 8 and up. The trips will launch at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Trips are first-come, first-served and will have a limit of 20 people per trip. All water activities require closed toe shoes; flip flops will not be allowed in the splash zone or on the tubing trips.
The Carolina Panthers mascot, Sir Purr, and PurrCussion DrumLine will be joining the lineup from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Festival goers can tap their paws along to the beat of PurrCussion and take a pic with Sir Purr.
Also this year, the Danville Hobby Convention will take place in the Pepsi Building from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the Danville Science Center will offer free admission and free movies in the Digital Dome.
