On Wednesday 6-28-17 at 12:37 PM, the Danville Fire Department responded to an outside fire at 1692 Halifax Road, AMA Recycling. On arrival there was heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the Recycling yard. The fire was contained in the large scrap receiving area. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. Fire units stayed on scene wetting down the debris as a large track hoe was used to stir and move the scrap pile. The water run off from the hose lines was contained in a retaining pond. There were no injuries sustained during the incident. The fire was ruled accidental and there was no dollar loss due to the materials involved.
The Fire Department arrived on scene in 2 minutes and was on the scene for 2 hours to complete the incident. Danville had 3 engines, 1 Ladder, 4 Support and 1 Water Tanker respond. The Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department assisted with water supply providing 2 Water Tankers and 6 personnel. The DLSC provided 3 units to standby during the incident for safety reasons.
