The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 417 First Street this afternoon at 4:32 pm. Crews arrived at 4:35 pm and found light smoke coming out the front door of a small one story duplex apartment building. Engine 5’s crew entered the structure and found a small pile of clothing and an air mattress on fire. They used a water fire extinguisher to put out the fire and it was determined to be under control at 4:38 pm. A ventilation fan was set up to remove smoke from the structure. The house was then searched to confirm no one was inside. The house sustained minimal smoke and fire damage.
The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, two support units and one fire marshal. Eighteen fire personnel were on the scene for 32 minutes.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s
Office and determined to be a child playing with a lighter. No injuries were
reported.
