The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure
fire at 619 Ferry Road this morning at 11:00 am. Crews arrived at 11:05 am and found
light smoke coming out of the windows on the front of a small one story house.
Engine 1’s crew pulled an attack line and knocked the fire down from the exterior of the house. Once
additional units arrived on scene they entered the house to for check for fire extension
and extinguishment. The fire was determined to be under control at 11:18 am. A
fan was set up to ventilate the structure. The house was then searched to
confirm no one was inside. The bedroom sustained moderate fire damage with the
rest of the house sustaining heat and smoke damage.
The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a
ladder truck, a command unit, two support units and three fire marshal’s. Nineteen
fire personnel were on the scene for 2 hours and 10 minutes. The Danville Life
Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Danville Electric Department, Danville
Water and Gas Department and the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Department –
Accelerant Dog assisted on scene.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s
Office and is undetermined at this time. No injuries were reported.
