This Halloween, Danville Parks and Recreation will host the Market Monster Mash at the Community Market beginning at 5 p.m.

The free event includes a pets-and-kids costume parade, trunk-or-treating, scarecrow stuffing, broom rides, a spooky slime station, face painting, a teen and adult pumpkin carving contest, a free movie and many more Halloween activities.

“We wanted to provide a safe Halloween event,” said Taylor Aherron, event organizer. “The Market Monster Mash will be a great family-friendly event full of activities and fun for all ages.”

Parks and Recreation is asking anyone who is interested in handing out candy during trunk-or-treat register now by calling Aherron at 434-793-4636 or signing up at www.PlayDanvilleVA.com. Set up for the trunk-or-treat begins at 4 p.m. Prizes will be given for the best decorated vehicle.

“We welcome fire and rescue vehicles, churches, civic organizations and citizens to participate in the trunk-or-treat,” Aherron said. “We need trunks and trunk loads of candy so even if you just want to donate a bag of individually wrapped candy, give us a call soon.”

The costume parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and trunk-or-treating will start at 5:45 p.m. The adult and teen pumpkin carving contest will start at 6 p.m. and “Hotel Transylvania” will be shown around 6:15 p.m.

Anyone interested in signing up for the carving contest can sign up online or by calling the Danville Welcome Center at (434) 793-4636.
