[ARCHIVED] Mainline Trolley service enters second month

Mainline Trolley stop at the Danville Science Center

Danville Transit’sMainline Trolley enters its second month of service on Friday, Sept. 1. Take a trolley bus to enjoy the sights and sounds of Danville’s beautiful historic districts. A trolley bus departs every 45 minutes and travels along a route path used by trolley cars during the 19th century.

Running the first Friday of every month and every Saturday, it’s the perfect way to get around downtown and the River District. Park in one of the nearby park and ride lots and then ride the trolley to your favorite destinations in the Old West End, Main Street, Tobacco Warehouse District and historic Neapolis in north Danville.

The trolley service is available from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. the first Friday of each month and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every Saturday. Fares are $1 per ride with a half-fare discount for seniors and disabled people until noon on Saturdays. Children 12 and under accompanied by an adult ride for free.

The service, which was developed based on survey responses, begins at Ballou Park Shopping Center and serves West Main and Main streets, Craghead Street to the Community Market area, Bridge Street and North Main Street to Moana Place (Neapolis).

Signs at each stop display boarding times for that particular location. The trolley bus will hit each bus stop location every 45 minutes. For a full trolley bus schedule, map and more information, go to www.danville-va.gov/1983/Mainline-Trolley.
