The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 541 Third Avenue this afternoon at 1:34 pm. Crews arrived at 1:36 pm and found light smoke and fire coming out of the side window of a small one story house. Engine 5’s crew pulled a 1¾” fire hose and began extinguishment of the fire from the exterior of the house. Once additional apparatus arrived on scene, they entered the house and found a fire on the stove extending up into kitchen cabinets and ceiling area. A fan was set up to ventilate the structure. The house was then searched to confirm no one was inside. The fire was determined to be under control at 1:40 pm. The kitchen sustained moderate fire damage with the rest of the house sustaining smoke damage.
The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, one support unit and one Fire Marshal. Seventeen fire personnel were on the scene for 1 hour and 55 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and the American Red Cross assisted on scene.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s
office and determined to be unattended cooking. No injuries were reported.
