Danville Parks and Recreation is looking for families, organizations or individuals to help decorate Ballou Park this holiday season in preparation for the Community Holiday Light Show.
“This event is only possible because the community helps decorate,” said event organizer Lisa Ferguson. “We have as much fun putting up the lights as we do showing them off. The great thing about this show is that the light displays can be as little or as big as the decorators like.”
Ferguson pointed out that past shows have featured everything from parade floats to one or two light up deer.
“We really want to emphasize that this show is about our community and for our community, anyone who may be interested is welcome to decorate,” she said. “All of the displays, regardless of size have the opportunity to provide not only holiday cheer to the visitors in the park but to earn money for regional nonprofit organizations.”
Visitors to the show are all asked to vote for their favorite display after driving through the park. The winners of the voting contest earn monetary donations toward an organization of their choosing. Since 2014, $18,685 has been donated to the community.
“We really want this year’s show to light up the whole park,” Ferguson added. “Even folks who do not want to build a large display or enter the voting contest but would be willing to set up a few trees, deer or other holiday themed displays are welcome to help; we will even take people interested in wrapping trees in lights.”
Decorating will begin November 10. The show will be held from Dec. 9 to Dec. 25 (closed Christmas Eve). Decorators are not required to attend the show. For more information, to donate lights or to sign up to help decorate, call (434) 793-4636.
